Alex Magala, a sword swallower who appeared in six prior “Got Talent” competitions throughout the world and won the Russian version in 2013, returns with one of his most death-defying acts yet in “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” Debuting January 7 on NBC, this spinoff series features the highly anticipated returns of 50 acts from around the globe competing for the title of Champion. Watch what Alex has in store for judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel and new host Terry Crews in the leaked video above.
After strutting around the stage with swords, Alex has Simon remove one sword from his stomach. Later, he does a 360-degree flip with a sword in his mouth, then hangs from a rope with nothing but a blade between his teeth. Alex then does the craziest thing yet by climbing to the top of a pole and doing a death drop, face-first, with what Heidi calls “a big, fat sword” in his mouth. Alex plunges to the ground and comes within centimeters of death.
Howie jumps up in shock as Mel holds her mouth, shouting, “He hit the floor! That was crazy.” To find out what else the judges have to say about Alex’s death drop, tune into “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” on NBC.
The 29-year-old Moldovan entertainer readily admits that he had “no talents” growing up until one day he happened to turn on the TV and saw an episode of “America’s Got Talent.” Magala recalls, “I’m seeing this person — he’s swallowing a sword. I’m in shock. How did he do that? I want to learn it. He was just my inspiration. I quit university and I went and purchased a sword. Everybody around me including my parents thought that I was just insane.”
Besides winning “Russian’s Got Talent,” Alex was also a finalist on “Britain’s Got Talent” and “Italia’s Got Talent,” a semi-finalist on “Česko Slovensko má talent” and “Ukraine’s Got Talent,” and a quarter-finalist on “AGT” Season 8 the year that Kenichi Ebina prevailed.
