‘The Masked Singer’ spoilers: The Bee is …

Have you been losing sleep like we have over who are the celebrities singing in elaborate animal costumes on “The Masked Singer”? We’ve done some digging and think we have uncovered the names of the stars who appeared on the second episode on Wednesday, January 9. We’ve already posted our theories as to the winners of the first sing-offs — the Rabbit and Raven — really are. That leaves just the Bee who closed the first show on Wednesday with a soaring version of “Chandelier” by Sia. (Watch her show-stopping performance in the video above.)

Forget those misleading statements by judges Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy that it could be Beyonce or Tina Turner hidden inside.

We are all but certain that the Bee is Gladys Knight.

WEEK ONE SPOILERS: Who are DeerLionMonster, PeacockUnicorn

Let’s break down the clues the Bee gave before singing:

“In my long career, I’ve flown to soaring heights” – Gladys, with her back-up group The Pips, has had 11 number-one R&B singles, and six number-one R&B albums. She has won seven Grammy Awards and she and The Pips were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

“Being a worker bee keeps me young” – Gladys will turn 75 on May 28.

“You can call me Queen Bee, but empress also suits me” – Gladys has been dubbed the Empress of Soul.

WEEK TWO SPOILERS: Who are Alien , Bee , PoodleRabbitRaven

As Robin Thicke correctly pointed out, the Bee was buzzing with talent. He applauded her perfect pitch and observed “You’ve obviously taken vocal training and sang for many years.”

When asked when she started singing, the Bee shocked us all by revealing that it was way back in the 1950s. Gladys was only 7 when she won “Ted Mack’s The Original Amateur Hour” in 1952. Soon after that, she and her brother and sister Merald and Brenda, along with cousins William and Eleanor Guest formed the Pips.
