It’s a new year and time for a brand new thread for us to cite the performances, directors, writers, producers who we think deserve Emmy award consideration when they deliver exceptional performances!

Last year we cited 74 different performers! Here’s hoping for a terrific year of daytime television! (:

    The Bold and the Beautiful

    Outstanding Drama Series
Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series
Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series

The build-up to Friday’s 8,000th episode was extremely well done and showcases why B&B continues to be the very best in its class. That Hope and Liam’s planned Babymoon was to take place on Catalina Island amidst a gathering storm was in itself a brilliantly-conceived idea by Brad Bell, but that Hope would go into premature labor on the island (with a frantic Liam tied up on the mainland) while in the care of Dr. Reese Buckingham (and have the threads of his story converge), was nothing short of genius! Michele Val Jean also created a wonderful script infused with a lot of suspense but also some humor through the interactions of characters Matt and Kieran Cannistra. There’s always so much care and attention to detail the directors put into filming a scene, and here Cindy Popp does another marvelous job with the camerawork, especially the final sequence that leads up to Hope passing out just as she’s about to give birth.

    Days of our Lives
    Best Supporting Actor
    Robert Scott Wilson (Ben Weston)
    Best Younger Actress
    Victoria Konefal (Ciara Brady)

Hope accuses Ben of kidnapping Gabi for Stefan, and Ciara asks her to leave. When Ben admits to Ciara that he did kidnap Gabi, she has trouble reconciling Ben’s aggressive and potentially violent actions toward Gabi with the way she feels about him and her having been raped by Chase. Ben is crushed by the comparison. Ciara says she cares about him and can’t tell him to quit his job, but she needs time to think about things.

I thought these two did a really good job with these scenes, and the writing for them was really strong. This is also good conflict for these two, and works better than having their obstacles be mostly Hope, Julie, etc.

    Days of Our Lives
    Best Actor
    Tyler Christopher (Stefan DiMera)
    Best Supporting Actress
    Lauren Koslow (Kate Roberts)

Stefan taunts Rafe over Hope’s priorities and interacts with his adversary-turned-lawyer. Kate tries to convince Chad to take back the DiMera CEO position, much to his frustration.

Both performers play brilliantly off all of their scene partners and provide beautiful emotion.

Best Younger Actor: Garen Stitt (Oliver, General Hospital)

Oliver learns that he has six weeks to eight months left to live, and his illness will get worse and worse for him. He gets upset and cries genuine earned tears, ably assisted by his mother (Tamara Braun). I don’t know where they are going with this story but the acting has been a pleasure to watch, and Master Stitt has been delivering strong performances.
